Join our 5-week book creation workshop, where children and their guardians transform into authors and illustrators, crafting their unique stories and art! These workshops, designed for children aged 4-7 and their families, encourage participants to express themselves freely in their own language. No previous skills or experience required!
By the end of the 5 weeks, we will collaboratively create a book, set to be unveiled at the Mother Tongues Festival on Saturday 17th February at 11.30 am. 
If you’re looking for a fun and engaging activity that promotes family bonding, this workshop is the perfect choice. We aim to foster participant’s creativity through conversation, writing and illustration in a relaxed and supportive community setting. Participe do nosso workshop de 5 semanas, em que crianças e suas famílias se transformam em autores e ilustradores, criando suas histórias e artes, que serão compilados em um livro! Este workshop, projetado para crianças de 4 a 7 anos e suas famílias, incentiva os participantes a se expressarem livremente em sua própria língua. Não é necessário ter habilidades ou experiência prévias! No final do curso de 5 semanas, teremos um livro, que será lançado no Mother Tongues Festival 2024. Mergulharemos em questões a partir de perspectivas individuais a comunitárias, oferecendo novos desafios a cada semana! Se você está procurando um momento de diversão e brincadeiras que promova o vínculo familiar e a exploração de temas como ancestralidade e vínculos geracionais, este workshop é para você. Nosso objetivo é estimular a criatividade dos participantes através de conversas, escrita e ilustração em um ambiente informal e acolhedor. Meet the artists

Debora Adachi

Debora Adachi is is an illustrator and writer of Brazilian-Japanese descent who is currently based in Ireland. Her passion lies in creating art that is accessible exposing people to a variety of perspectives. Debora has received recognition for her illustrations, being named a Highly Commended Illustration Winner for the FAB Prize 22. In 23 she was selected to be part of Harper Collins Author Academy and has been writing and illustrating her own Picturebook since then. The same year, she joined WEFT and Vital Spark programmes, igniting her passion in performance making. Debora also is an arts facilitator and collaborated with organizations including Kildare Education Associated Schools, Garter Lane Arts Centre, The Ark, Mother Tongues, and the Irish Architecture Foundation (OHJ). With a background in Architecture and urbanism, as well as experience working in the animation industry as a Background Artist, Debora channels her diverse experiences into her art, using it as a tool to foster connections and a sense of belonging and self-worth.

Fernanda Ferrari

Fernanda Ferrari is a multidisciplinary artist who loves to create stories and images that awaken the inner child inside each of us. Her passion is to work with children and their families using creativity as a transformation tool. Originally from Brazil and based in Ireland, she was awarded by the Arts Council, the South Dublin County Council and The Civic Theatre to research and develop original projects for young audiences. Her artistic exploration includes puppet theatre, storytelling, silent books, visual arts and most recently AR technology. She has been working with Mother Tongues on several projects facilitating art workshops for multilingual families.


Do I need to commit to the 5 sessions?

No worries if you can’t, but we’d love it if you could join us each week! The workshop is designed with new content every week and it’s all connected. So, the more you attend, the more you’ll get out of it!

Who will supervise and instruct my child?

Children must be under the supervision of their parents or guardians at all times.

What languages will we be speaking?

Fernanda and Debora, our facilitators are Brazilian and their native language is Portuguese. However they will guide you through the workshops in English – but hey, feel free to chat in whatever language you’re most at ease with. We’re all about making you feel super comfortable here!

How many sessions are there?

Every Saturday starting on January 13th for 5 weeks (90 min sessions), with the sixth and last FREE session on the Festival Day (February 17th), when the books will be presented and distributed.

Will adults have to participate as well in the workshops?

Absolutely! The workshop is designed for families to awaken their inner artists. It’s a place where everyone can freely express their creativity. We aim to make the activities as easy and inspiring as possible so you can continue the fun and creation at home with your little ones.

What is the age range?

Open to children 4-7 years old and their families. No skills or experience required!

What will my child learn in this workshop?

We’re going to have a blast in this workshop where the main focus is creating art for a book! It’s a fantastic opportunity to play around with various materials, showcase your amazing artistic skills, and work together to breathe life into a book!
