For the second consecutive year, Mother Tongues is partnering with Scoil Aoife Community National School to bring a collaborative community project to Mother Tongues Festival 2025. Together, we engaged pupils in a project, fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration within the community.
This year, the children are invited to work together with artists Debora Adachi and PJ Ojo to create, through visual arts and music, a Giant Map of where they live and play. The project has been designed for multilingual families with children aged 9 and 10 years old, and their younger siblings (4 -7 years old). This collaborative project will cover topics such as family, our daily lives, our neighbourhood and our community.
The two collaborating artists bring a diverse array of skills and perspectives to the programme, blending their talents to craft an engaging experience for all participants. Debora will lead the way in creating illustrations and weaving stories through collaborative visual storytelling, while PJ will bring the performance to life through songwriting and performance.
The final exhibition will be open to the public on the afternoon of Saturday 22nd of February.
Meet the artists
Debora Adachi
Debora Adachi is a Brazilian-Japanese illustrator, children’s author and workshop facilitator. Her passion stems from her connections to family and ancestry. She loves to share her love for colour and drawing through emotionally resonant art and stories with a pinch of humour.
Debora has received recognition for her illustrations, being named a Highly Commended Illustration Winner for the FAB Prize 22. She’s an alumnus of Pathways 2022-2024 children’s illustration program by Pop Up Projects. Clients include Harper Collins UK, Goethe Institut, Mother Tongues, Creative Ireland, and DLR Arts Office. Her illustrations have been showcased in Hen’s Teeth Gallery, Dublin Canvas, and Garter Lane Arts Centre. Debora also collaborates as an arts facilitator for children with various organizations including The Ark, Mother Tongues, Tallaght Community Arts and the Irish Architecture Foundation (OHJ). Furthermore, she serves as the Illustrator Coordinator for SCBWI Ireland and is a member of DesignOpp, a not-for-profit initiative that promotes diversity in Irish design.
PJ Ojo
Pius Ohiole Ojo (PJ) is an Irish-Nigerian musical artist/director and actor who is motivated by creating abstract/whimsical worlds by combining his musical background with his passion for cinema. Pius establishes memorable characters with a narrative approach in his music to take the audience on a journey to remember. His short film Omozé was featured in the 35th Galway Film Fleadh where we get a first glimpse at one of the worlds Pius has constructed. He also composed a song for the film which he then shot in beautiful colours and physical movements.
Pius has also had a role in the beautiful Irish film called Aisha which was screened at the prestigious BFI film festival. He has had the opportunity of working with Letitia Wright, Frank Berry, and Josh O’Connor. Pius has worked as a music mentor for the South Dublin County Council in schools and community centres for the past three years, giving service to young people to provide a positive environment for creative expression.
