Are you an artist with a passion for creativity, culture, and language? If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you!
The Mother Tongues Festival, Ireland’s largest celebration of linguistic diversity through the arts, is calling upon talented artists like you to be a part of an unforgettable event in 2024. Get ready to make a difference, connect with diverse communities, and showcase your artistic practice like never before.
The Mother Tongues Festival is a vibrant and inclusive platform that invites artists from all backgrounds to participate in workshops, performances and exhibitions that embrace the power of multilingualism.
At Mother Tongues, we believe in colouring outside the lines. We encourage everyone, regardless of their linguistic background, to explore new horizons, learn something new and most importantly, have a blast doing it. Our festival is all about celebrating your mother tongue and the multitude of languages spoken in Ireland.Â
For the 2024 edition of the Mother Tongues Festival, we’re searching for talented artists to lead workshops that captivate, educate, and entertain. Whether your field is music, visual arts, dance, storytelling, traditional arts and crafts, or any form of performance, we want to hear from you. While we welcome all proposals, we are particularly interested in those which link clearly to one of the following themes:
an activity that promotes creativity and language, that fosters an understanding of linguistic diversity or an appreciation of all languages.
an activity that promotes a single language by showing the relevance of the links between language and heritage
Remember, our workshops are designed with families in mind, catering to children up to 8 years old. This includes various age groups, ensuring that your creativity touches the hearts and minds of the youngest festival-goers. Each selected artist will receive a budget of €250 per workshop.
We are particularly interested in proposals that celebrate languages beyond English, with a special emphasis on those from Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Your unique perspective can enrich the festival and create a vibrant cultural exchange. Click the button below to submit your workshop proposal. The deadline is Sunday, November 12th 2023. The workshop will be held on February 17th 2024 in Tallaght.
